The Baryonyx is a creature from Prehistoric Rift.

Journal Transcript[]

"Baryonyxes prefer being around rivers. They prefer eating fish, but eat some of the land creatures from time to time.

Their claws can inject poison into their targets, but their skin is poisonous too. Might not seem much at first, but the water lets that poison spread. They're why I don't swim a lot.

They have a great affinity for fishing, and every once in a while they might end up catching something rare from the water."

Behavior (Wild)[]

Baryonyx will generally swim about looking for fish, but will occasionally come to land to hunt random animals and herbivores before returning to the water. When attacking, they will either use their standard bite, or a claw attack that inflicts poison on their target for 10 seconds.

When in water, their skin secretes a substance that will poison anything that goes near them as long as they're in the water, which lasts for 45 seconds.

Combat[]

There isn't really that much of a reason to kill a Baryonyx other than to maybe avoid their poisonous secretions, but if you want to, make sure to keep a distance from them and use a ranged weapon, which can be hard to use in the water.

If you are feeling confident that you won't get killed by their poison make sure to bring some milk just in case. You may then give it you whatever creature you're riding to get rid of the poison, if you do have one at least. A Baryonyx of your own is recommended if you want to fight them one on one as they are completely immune to poison

Taming[]

To tame a Baryonyx, you must sneak while holding fish treats, then give it to them to make them eventually trust you. Once they trust you, they will not attack you, though be careful as they might fight back. You then need to give them flesh treats every 10 seconds, which is indicated by an icon above them. Eventually, you will be able to tame them. You can then give them any form of meat or fish to make them grow up and heal them.

Utility[]

Baryonyxes have reasonably great speed in both land and water, making them perfect for surface exploration (especially when crossing rivers) or aquatic exploration.

They are reasonably great at water combat as their poison secretion can cripple nearby mobs, but this can backfire if you are not in the mood for combat as when the Baryonyx applies its poison all mobs affected by it will fight back.
